To stop the car, it depends on the brake system. It's impossible for car owners to put their feet on the ground to stop the car. Today we'll learn about the brake system.
Automobile brake system
At present, the main forms of household car brake are disc brake and drum brake, while drum brake is used less and less. So today I will focus on the maintenance of disc brake. The main components of disc brake are brake pads and brake discs.
Brake pad: in the brake system of a car, the brake pad is the most critical safety part, and the brake pad plays a decisive role in all braking effects, so a good brake pad is the God of protection for people and cars.
The brake pad is generally composed of steel plate, adhesive heat insulation layer and friction block, in which the heat insulation layer is composed of non heat transfer materials for the purpose of heat insulation. The friction block is squeezed on the brake disc or drum to produce friction when braking, so as to achieve the purpose of vehicle deceleration braking. As a result of friction, the friction block will be gradually worn. Generally speaking, the lower the cost, the faster the brake pad will wear.
Brake disc: the brake disc, in short, is a round plate, which rotates when the car is moving. When the brake is applied, the brake caliper clamps the brake disc to slow down or stop the vehicle. The brake disc has good braking effect and is easier to maintain than drum brake.
Difference between brake pad and brake disc
The principle of automobile brake is similar to that of bicycle. In the process of driving, step on the brake with your feet, so that the brake shoes drive the brake pads, so that the friction of the rotating brake discs is produced, and the braking effect is achieved. The difference between them is that the brake disc is rotating like the wheel, but the brake disc is always stationary.
How often do brake pads change?
This is determined by inspection. The brake pads are divided into front brake and rear brake pads. Generally, they are inspected every 5000 km. If the friction block loss is less than 1 mm, it needs to be replaced. There is also a saying that the front brake is 30000 km and the rear brake is 60000 km.
How to judge whether the brake disc needs to be replaced?
The replacement cycle of the brake disc can be determined according to the replacement times of the brake pads. Generally, replace the brake disc every 2 times. It can also be judged by the following conditions that the brake pads need to be replaced.
1. Observe the brake disc warning light: when the brake disc is faulty or excessively worn, the brake disc indicator light will be on and off after repair. When the warning light is on, the brake disc has been worn to the limit, and the braking effect is reduced, which greatly affects the driving safety. It is recommended to regularly check the wearing condition of the brake disc, rather than only believe in the warning light.
2. Check the thickness of the brake disc: most of the brake discs have three small pits. Use vernier caliper to measure the depth of small pit is 1.5mm. In other words, the total wear depth of both sides of the brake disc is 3mm, so it is recommended to replace the brake disc in time.
3. Listen to the sound: if there is a "iron rubbing" sound accompanied by a light brake, the limit marks on both sides of the brake pad have directly rubbed the brake disc, at this time, the brake pad needs to be replaced immediately.
I remind you: the maintenance of the brake system is very important, but driving safely can't rely on all the safety when braking. What's more, you should know how to brake in advance and predict the braking!
